Manager, Strategy FP&A

The Manager, Strategy FP&A partners with the Vice President of Strategy, the President of Cost.U.Less (CUL), Road Town Wholesale (RTW) and the Leadership Team in the design, implementation, and execution of the Strategic Planning Process and other planning and analytics projects for CUL and RTW.  This role works with corporate and business unit leadership to determine and execute key business development initiatives, spearhead Financial Planning and Data Analysis, and perform Project Management activities to further the Business Unit’s long term objectives.

Key Accountabilities:

Conduct Analysis within the Strategy Frameworks. This includes Financial and Data Analysis, as well as Capital Planning, Budgeting and Financial Scenario Modelling activities
  • Create insights for the Business Units that have strategic and operational implications through data and financial analysis methods.
  • Conduct market research to inform the strategic planning process of the Business Unit.
  • Support annual business budgeting process (1-3 year). Work with President and Business Unit Leadership to develop Financial Analysis that quantifies the impact of operational and strategic initiatives, and include them in short and medium term financial projections.
  • Conduct Financial Modelling and Scenario Analysis to support the capital planning process. This includes Capital Appropriation Requests analysis aligned with corporate capital plan.
Identification, creation, re-calibration and development of new business initiatives, including business optimization, market expansion due diligence
  • Liaison with President of CUL-RTW, VP of Strategy and other executives and key stakeholders to identify potential long-range initiatives that could be part of the 3-5 year plan for the Business Unit. This includes scope, resourcing, business benefits and milestones.
  • Lead those potential initiatives from the idea stage to investigation, resourcing, testing, planning, adjustment and roll-out phases, which include but are not limited to:
    • Conduct preliminary feasibility analysis
    • Determine the ‘size of the prize’ if the problem is resolved or opportunity is seized.
    • Conduct strategy deep dive to assess the financial/operational feasibility
    • Perform prioritization exercises to identify key focus areas and log trade-offs.
    • Build a business case with market analysis, costs, operational and financial impact
    • Once it is launched, monitor the initiative’s progress towards key KPIs
  • Develop potential market expansion strategies including M&A opportunities.
Development of periodic and ad-hoc key reports for the Business Unit, to monitor operational and key initiative performance to targets
  • Develop frameworks, models, tools and templates to assess progress on strategic initiatives.
  • Implement and monitor lagging and leading KPIs, in conjunction with business unit leaders.
  • Review monthly CUL and RTW Financial Statements and prepare one-page variance reports.
  • Prepare period review templates and attend the monthly period review meetings.
Corporate alignment within the Strategic Framework and Project Management of Key Initiatives
  • Prepare materials for periodic business unit strategy meetings by working with executives accountable for each initiative.
  • Prepares materials for periodic Corporate Steering Committee by working with the VP of Strategy, President of CUL-RTW and other business unit executives
  • Develop methods, tools and data that allows leverage of the corporate strategic agenda. This includes providing insights that allow alignment with the long term corporate strategy for the company as a whole, beyond the business unit.
  • Ensure project management principles, due diligence, engagement of appropriate internal and external subject matter experts are included in the governance of the strategic initiatives.
  • Assist President of CUL and RTW in monitoring the Capital Planning Process execution, in conjunction Corporate VP of Construction and VP of Real Estate to ensure projects are achieving time and budget targets
Execution key strategic initiatives for the Business Unit, in some particular cases
  • Support an implementation team to execute on new business ventures that are deemed to be high potential. Examples of key strategic Initiatives to be directly executed by the role can include:
      • Wholesale/B2B Strategy Development
        • Optimize current business across People, Systems & Processes. 
        • Develop Market Expansion Strategy including M&A opportunities. 
        • Assist in the due diligence process and execution of the strategy
      • Retail Stores Strategy Development
        • Develop Market Expansion Strategy including M&A opportunities.
        • Assist in the due diligence process and execution of the strategy.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the areas of strategy, finance, retail, corporate development, real estate or consumer products.
  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, science, engineering, or a related field
  • Ability to structure and analyze complex problems, including experience with financial analysis in excel and other analytical tools
  • Strong communication both verbal and written, as well as influencing skills, especially with executives
  • Ability to problem solve and know when to escalate
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong time management
  • Strong power point skills
  • High aptitude and resolve to achieve goals
  • Ability to set own priorities based on workload
  • Ability to work well with a team
  • Able to thrive in a high-stress and fast-paced environment
