Strategic Pricing Analyst

In your role as the Strategic Pricing Analyst at The North West Company (NWC), you will be responsible for providing support for the execution of the pricing strategies for the NWC Canadian Banners. This includes making retail decisions and changes, reporting and tracking price movement within our stores and markets as a whole, assessing impact on retails from changes in our business, impact of retail changes on our business, and assessing the effectiveness of pricing strategies.

Your Role:
  • Estimate the financial impact of changing a strategy on an item and/or store.
  • Work with 3rd party vendors to provide competitive pricing data.
  • Prepare store retail adjustments and report on the projected/actual financial impact.
  • Review the impact to our retails competitive position by market based on increases or decreases.
  • Review the influence of strategic pricing initiatives to item level, group level, and store level gross margin, volume, and sales.
  • Prepare basket analyses of items that fall within our strategies and determine whether we are seeing changes in basket penetration and/or size.
  • Adhere to strict timelines required by the Strategic Pricing team to enable the preparation of retail changes at store level.
  • Price indexing and margin assessment reports is required on a scheduled and ad hoc basis for both local and out shop competitors.
  • Provide additional information and dynamic adjustment capabilities within reports as needed; and,
  • Prepare pricing reports to be sent to Merchandising & Operations as needed.
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Post-secondary degree in Commerce, Finance and/or Business Analytics preferred; or a combination of education and related experience is required.
  • 3-5 analytical experience, with preference to retail or pricing analysis.
  • Knowledge of SQL is considered an asset.
  • Expert Proficiency in Microsoft Office with specific emphasis on Excel and Access, with experience in Power Query would be considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proven experience in an analytic capacity with a focus on identifying insights and presenting recommendations.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts, systems and industry best practices and apply these learnings to the continued development of the team/ support of the business.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish work independently and within a team to meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; and,
  • Ability to work well individually with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.
