Director of Retail - RiteWay

The Director of Retail leads the RiteWay Food Markets retail and provisioning business and is responsible for nine stores across the British Virgin Islands. This individual must have strong interpersonal skills, be a confident communicator, capable of leading, respecting and understanding over 300 store employees. The role requires a high level of experience in conventional grocery retailing and the ability to drive standards, set clear expectations, and develop the talent within the retail business.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Financial Accountability: responsible for the financial performance of all stores.
  • Budgeting: responsible for payroll, sales growth, profit, stock loss, and inventory levels of all stores
  • Training and Development: invest in training to enhance skills and capabilities. Motivate, coach, inspire and develop your team to be the best in retail, driving consistently excellent standards and generating great results.
  • Performance Management: establish a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management. Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Recruitment: recruit, hire and retain a passionate team with specific knowledge and expertise.
  • Identifying Talent: create sustainable talent strategies and talent planning across all departments of retail to fuel continued team growth.
  • Drive standards: be a champion of change, and drive consistently excellent standards to create an environment where everyone is working and winning as one team. Ensure our products on sale are of good quality, fresh, priced, with clean stores that creates an excellent shopping experience for our customers. Develop and nurture a customer service culture with our front line colleagues
  • Compliance: ensure compliance with all health and safety protocols, security measures, food safety, equipment handling, product freshness and sanitation
  • Create SOP’s and drive execution: create and implement policies and procedures that will improve day-to-day operations and follow all safe and secure training and processes.
  • Availability: manage availability, maintain adequate stock levels in stores at all times through ordering, ranging, organizing merchandise, replenishment and stock rotation.
  • Systems: champion new technology to become more efficient and have an understanding of computer applications and programs including SMS, Time Master, Great Plains, Microsoft Excel, Power BI.
  • Provide feedback to the senior management team by leveraging customer insights and feedback to drive the business to be the retailer of choice.
  • Set expectations with store managers and visit stores weekly to check progress and coach on improvements.
  • Problem solve – be able to trouble shoot issues, and resolve conflict in crisis situations among staff and customers as necessary.
  • Any other reasonable request or duty assigned.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Must have a minimum 10 years’ experience in Retail Operations
  • Secondary Education with management accreditation.
  • Possess good verbal communication, numeracy and computer skills for database management and report generation.
  • Ability to problem-solve, plan ahead, and work independently and in a team.
  • General knowledge of retail product warehousing and merchandising.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong cognitive skills, including problem analysis, decision making, financial and quantitative analysis
  • Manage conflict and lead and hold others accountable
  • Relate well with and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
This is an on site role - relocation to the British Virgin Islands is required.
