Truck Driver (Local)

The Truck Driver, who directly reports to the Administrative Manager, is responsible for the safe and effective operation of a tractor-trailer completing delivery and pick-up of Cost.U.Less freight in local areas. The truck driver plays an important role in ensuring that our supply chain operates unimpeded and cost-effectively. As a visible face to many of our external stakeholders including vendors and carriers, the truck driver will maintain a positive attitude that promotes team work and collaboration.

Location:  Our warehouse is located in San Leandro, CA.  

Pay rate: $29.00 per hour.  Overtime may be offered based upon business needs.

Full time employment with benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401K).



Key Accountabilities:
• Driving heavy truck and trailer
  o Inspecting the truck thoroughly before the commencement of journey to ensure
     everything electrical and mechanical is functioning properly including that their
     trailer is in good condition for the loading of freight.

  o Vehicle to be maintained at all times. The cab interior is to be clean and
     organized; vehicle controls and windshield are not impaired. Exterior
     appearance is maintained to company standards.

  o Follow prescribed dispatch instructions and use best routes between
     delivery/pickup points for an efficient operation.

  o Report any needed repairs or special maintenance to supervisor immediately.
  o Report unusual delays, traffic, and/or accidents to supervisor immediately.
  o Works in coordination with loaders and makes sure loaders always have
     containers at the doors for loading.

  o Closes, seals, and secures loaded containers or trailers before the end of each
     day.

• Handles company merchandise
  o Adhere to supply chain security requirements and protect the integrity of
     shipments at all times.

  o Records and ensures that refrigerated containers are running at the set
     temperature.

• Stays in compliance and follows all regulations
  o Maintains a valid Class A commercial driver’s license
  o Maintains a valid TWIC card for port access
  o Must take and pass random drug and alcohol testing
• Submit and file daily reports


Desired Skills & Experience:
• Must have a valid commercial driver’s license and a minimum of 2 years driving
  experience

• No convictions for DUI (drug or alcohol-related) offense in the last 5 years
• Ability to pass a DOT physical and DOT drug screen and meet FMCSA rules
• Strong communication skills in English with bi-lingual (English/Spanish) being an
  asset.

• Skills in the maintenance and upkeep of a mechanical vehicles is a must.
• A TWIC Card is required.

Skills and Abilities:
• Must be detail oriented
• Sufficient strength to not only handle driving the truck, but must be capable of
  heavy lifting and hauling

• High level of accuracy
• Must be able to communicate clearly with all levels of company personnel –
  answering questions, asking questions, and responding to requests for
  information.

• Always act in a professional manner


Working Conditions:
• Truck driving for long periods of time.  Some days will include driving from San Leandro to Yuba City and back between our depots.  In addition, will travel and make stops at Cost.U.Less vendors as well as trips from the depot to port.
• Variable weather and traffic conditions
• Handle greasy and dirty parts and may stand or lie in awkward positions to repair
  vehicles and equipment
• Indoors/outdoors under all kinds of weather conditions
• Must be able to frequently lift and move heavy items of a minimum of 50 lbs
• Home nightly and most weekends, but occasional weekend or evening coverage
  may be required.
