Fresh Perishables Manager

The Fresh Perishables Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and staffing of Riteway’s Pasea store perishables departments, including Produce, Chilled, Frozen, and Bakery. This role leads all departmental functions such as scheduling, ordering, merchandising, inventory management, and team development to ensure operational excellence and achievement of sales, profitability, and customer service goals. The successful candidate will foster a positive, customer-focused culture, demonstrate a passion for food and people, and maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming shopping environment for both customers and employees.

Your Role:

  • Maintain a full, fresh, and visually appealing produce department that delivers a welcoming customer experience, ensures product quality and freshness, and supports weekly merchandising plans and promotional activities.
  • Monitor department operations, product quality, signage accuracy, and inventory conditions; identify opportunities for improvement and implement corrective actions, including reallocating aged but consumable products as appropriate.
  • Lead, train, schedule, and develop department staff to ensure adequate coverage, compliance with policies and procedures, achievement of department standards, and a collaborative, customer-focused work environment.
  • Promote effective communication, teamwork, and accountability by sharing company and department information, reinforcing expectations, and administering corrective actions when required in consultation with the General Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, health and safety, and temperature-control standards by maintaining clean facilities, monitoring refrigeration systems, and maintaining required records and logs.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment by conducting routine equipment inspections, coordinating maintenance and repair needs, and supporting health and safety initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager or Director of Retail Operations.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum two (2) years of management experience in the retail, grocery, or restaurant industry, including supervising teams of eight (8) or more employees.
  • Strong knowledge of produce items, food handling practices, and possession of a valid Food Handler's Certificate.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, customer service, problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in basic math and computer applications.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Reliable, dependable, highly motivated, and able to maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude.
  • Flexible to work a variety of shifts across a seven (7) day operation, including weekends and holidays.
  • Physically capable of standing for extended periods, regularly lifting and carrying 25–50 lbs., and working in cold and subzero temperature environments without adverse effects.
  • Must not have any food allergies that could interfere with job duties.
